One of the signature events of the summer is here — the Chosen Few Picnic & Festival. As always, the largest House music festival is expected to be the biggest and best one yet as thousands of House and non-House heads will descend upon Jackson Park on Saturday for this party and “family reunion.”
As for what else is going on this weekend, it’s like a broken record: there are a plethora of options for you to get your #summertimechi on.
With that said, here are some fun things to do this weekend in Chicago!
BLK Fridays: ALL ARTIST OPEN MIC hosted by Awthentik and Mjh (July 7)
Spoken Word and poetry are alive, and this notable event showcases some of the city’s best performers. BLK Fridays takes place at the Bobo Emporium. Prepare to be inspired at this entertaining and enriching event.
Christopher McBride & The Whole Proof “Ramon” Album Release (July 7)
This event at the Promontory is an album release party, homecoming and birthday celebration for saxophonist Christopher McBride. McBride is coming home to celebrate the release of his sophomore project “Ramon.”
Ne-Yo with special guest Mario (July 7)
This three-time Grammy Award-winning purveyor of sophisticated soul headlines Ravinia on Friday. He and Mario, an R&B titan in his own right, should deliver soul music that goes down easy on a Summer night.
NGOMA On The Beach (July 7)
Expect an evening of soulful music, grooves and vibes at 71st Street Beach (South Shore Cultural Center). This event just sounds sexy.
Scarface With Special Guest Slim Thug (July 7)
The venerable emcee hits the House of Blues stage with fellow Houstonian Slim Thug. Given the depth and excellence of Scarface’s catalog, expect a compelling show. Real heads know.
Chosen Few Picnic & Festival 2023 (July 8)
This destination event at Jackson Park has always had a family reunion feel. The vibes are blissful. Plus, there’s a good chance you’ll run into someone you haven’t seen in a long time. The lineup for this year’s celebration is fire as usual — Wayne Williams, Jesse Saunders, Tony Hatchett, Alan King, Terry Hunter, Andre Hatchett, Mike Dunn and more.
The Legends Of Comedy Tour at the Country Club Hills Amphitheater (July 8)
We’re not talking kings. We’re talking comedy LEGENDS. With renowned comedians like George Wallace, Tommy Davidson, J. Anthony Brown, Michael Colyar, Barbara Carlyle and Chris Thomas, expect your sides to hurt from laughing so hard.
The World’s Largest Steppers Set (July 9)
This FREE daylong event at the Green Lake Woods in Calumet City will feature a cookout, live music, a swimming pool, games, camel and pony rides, and steppin’ lessons.
Pier 31 Restaurant (July 7-9)
Seven days a week, all summer long, Pier 31 Restaurant and the adjoining 31st Street Beach will be the central headquarters for live entertainment. To reiterate, live entertainment will be happening daily, including this weekend. So breeze through.
Roscoe Village Burger Fest (July 7-9)
Chicago is the top food city in America. Please don’t argue with us about this. Nowhere is this more evident than at the Roscoe Village Burger Fest, which takes place all weekend. Bring your wallet and an empty stomach.
