A 62-year-old man who was shot while sitting in his vehicle at a stop sign in the Englewood neighborhood and a 38-year-old Uber driver were among four men fatally shot in the predawn hours on the city’s South and West Sides, Chicago police said.

Shortly after 11 p.m. Friday, the 62-year-old was at a stop sign in the 800 block of West 71st Street when shots were fired and he was hit in the head. He was taken in critical condition to the University of Chicago Medical Center where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Moments earlier, a 38-year-old Uber driver behind the wheel of a gray Chrysler minivan was fatally shot about 10:35 p.m. by someone on a sidewalk in the 500 block of West 95th Street in the Brainerd neighborhood, according to a police report.

Officers initially responded to a traffic crash and found the minivan slammed into a street pole. About an hour earlier, at 9:33 p.m., a 911 call was placed saying two teenage girls were riding in an Uber and its driver was not allowing them to leave the vehicle, the report said. The vehicle and the description of the driver matched the victim’s.

He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn where he was pronounced dead at 11:17 p.m., the report said.
