Two 18-year-olds were killed in a car crash on Saturday morning in Hoffman Estates, according to local police.
The crash occurred around 8:52 a.m. at the intersection of Higgins Road and Barrington Road, involving three vehicles.
The Cook County medical examiner’s office identified the two teenagers as Amelia Mazeikis and D’Shaun Tudela.
Both were recent graduates of Schaumburg High School and had been dating for three years, according to a GoFundMe page started by Tudela’s family.
Mazeikis “was a talented artist, gymnast, and animal lover,” according to another GoFundMe page started by her family.
A statement from the Hoffman Estates Police Department said that Mazeikis was transported to St. Alexius Medical Center where she was pronounced dead. Tudela was transported to Alexian Brothers Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
Two other people involved were transported to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.
The crash is under investigation but initial reports indicate that alcohol might have been involved with another vehicle, according to police.
