Two shootings in the same location on the inbound Eisenhower in as many days have left one person dead and another wounded in the city’s West Side Austin neighborhood, authorities said.
A motorist traveling on the eastbound I-290 near Cicero Avenue was shot and his passenger uninjured about 11:50 a.m. Tuesday, according to Illinois State Police spokesperson Trooper Melissa Albert-Lopez.
The driver, an unidentified male whose family has yet to be notified, was dead at the scene, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
Eastbound traffic was diverted at Harlem while troopers investigated and was reopened by 2 p.m.
Meanwhile, Wednesday about 5:15 a.m. at the same place, another male of an unknown age was shot, Albert-Lopez said.
He was taken to a hospital with injuries not believed to be serious, and all lanes were reopened about 7 a.m. after troopers investigated.
Both shootings were still being investigated and there was no indication they were connected.
