Officers on duty early Friday morning saw a small fire outside a West Englewood home and later found a 32-year-old woman fatally shot inside, Chicago police said.
Shortly before 12:45 a.m., officers spotted a fire outside a home in the 6400 block of South Damen Avenue, and when they checked inside they discovered an unresponsive woman who had suffered a gunshot wound to the back of the head, police said.
She was taken to UChicago Medicine where she was pronounced dead.
No one was in custody for the shooting, and detectives were investigating.
