A Winthrop Harbor woman has been charged for the March incident in which, authorities say, she drove over a Waukegan man as she fled from a parking lot accident.
Liliana Wagner, 17, has been charged with leaving the scene of a personal injury accident, aggravated driving under the influence and aggravated fleeing following an incident in which the 19-year-old Waukegan man was critically injured, according to the Lake County sheriff’s office.
Police said Wagner surrendered to authorities Wednesday and she remains in the county jail in lieu of $250,000 bail.
Authorities say that Wagner was involved in a parking lot accident early on March 20 on North Sheridan Road in Beach Park, and that the man was a witness who interceded.
Police said Wagner attempted to drive off and the man ended up having to leap onto the hood of her car to avoid being struck. The man’s friends chased after her in their vehicle, along with a sheriff’s deputy who happened to be driving by.
As the friends pulled alongside Wagner, police said, she suddenly swerved and stopped, dislodging the man from her hood, and then ran over him as she fled.
Police eventually were able to deploy a device that flattened tires on Wagner’s car, forcing her to stop near Rosemont.
The victim continues to recover while undergoing extensive rehabilitation, police said Thursday.
