A 41-year-old man was charged with child endangerment causing the death of a child and unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon in the shooting death of an 8-year-old boy on the West Side, police said.
Ramon Sumerlin, of the 3100 block of West Flournoy Street, was arrested Monday in the 11400 block of South Elizabeth Street and charged in connection with the Aug. 15 shooting death of a boy at Sumerlin’s residence, police said.

Shortly after 4:30 a.m. that day, police say Sumerlin left the boy, Jacari Brown, unattended. The child found the gun and accidentally shot himself in the chest.
Sumerlin was scheduled to appear at a bail hearing Thursday.
