As the Chicago Bears took on the Buffalo Bills on Saturday, medical teams were ready as the last two days of bitter cold and harsh winds seemingly weren’t enough to keep fans away.
Stadium staff prepared to help patrons face the weather head-on, as temperatures reached 9 degrees at kickoff — making this the fifth-coldest home game for the Bears.

Soldier Field has medical teams throughout the stadium and several treatment areas for attendees to be checked in, according to director of sponsorship and media Luca Serra. Additionally, there are two warming areas — at Gate 31 plaza and on the service level down the southwest tunnel by the Dr Pepper Patio — for those that do not have club seats.
Among other measures, fans were prohibited from using tents, flags, firepits, deep fryers, open flames, infrared panels or propane heaters while tailgating in the lots. They were also discouraged from using charcoal grills during tailgates and from bringing cardboard to sit or stand on during the game.

Some food and beverage concession stands were expected to be closed, too. In-seat vendors and booths throughout the stadium would offer coffee and hot chocolate to fans.
“While inclement weather can be a part of the full football game day experience, it is important for fans to be smart, stay warm with layers and safe during he duration of the game this Saturday,” said a Chicago Bears news release Thursday.
