Márquez told the Tribune he developed myocarditis after getting COVID last season. Myocarditis, an inflammation of the heart muscle, has been connected to post-COVID cases, and Márquez believes that is how he developed it. Boston Red Sox pitcher Eduardo Rodríguez notably missed the 2020 season because of myocarditis after contracting COVID. Testing discovered Márquez’s myocarditis, which he dealt with from April until November when he was fully cleared. Márquez was allowed to do light work and use some weights in September.
