Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Jake McCabe underwent cervical spine surgery, the team said in a statement Tuesday.
The surgery was successful, according to team physician Dr. Michael Terry. McCabe is expected to recover in 10 to 12 weeks. No further details were provided.

McCabe played in 75 games last season and had a career-high-tying four goals and a career-high 18 assists. He had a career-low minus-27 rating as the team shifted to a rebuild.
In other injury news, forward Jalen Luypen had surgery on his left rotator cuff and is expected to return in 14 to 18 weeks.

The Hawks signed Luypen to a three-year entry-level contract in early August. The contract carries an $859,000 annual salary cap hit. He set career highs in goals (29), assists (35) and points (64) in 66 games for the WHL Edmonton Oil Kings last season.
