Powerball jackpot reaches $610 million — the 8th-largest in its history

The Powerball jackpot has reached an estimated $610 million — a $292.6 million cash value — which makes it the eighth-largest grand prize in Powerball’s 30-year history. The next drawing is Monday.

The jackpot reached the milestone after no ticket matched all six numbers drawn Saturday night. Three tickets in New York, South Carolina and Texas matched five out of six numbers Saturday for a total of $1 million.

Powerball tickets are $2 per play. While overall chances of winning a prize are 1 in 24.9, the chances of winning the jackpot are 1 in 292.2 million.

The lucky grand prize winners can choose to receive the grand prize as an annuity, which means it would be paid in 30 graduated payments over 29 years or as a lump-sum payment.

The Powerball jackpot was last won on Aug. 3, for $206.9 million. The game has since had 34 draws in a row without a grand prize winner.

In 2016, Powerball set the world record for largest jackpot — a $1.6 billion jackpot that was shared by winners in California, Florida and Tennessee. The seventh largest Powerball jackpot — for a total of $632.6 million — was won earlier this year on Jan. 5, split by winners in California and Wisconsin.
