A Chicago police officer was shot and wounded Sunday in the city’s Englewood neighborhood on the city’s South Side.
The male officer and a male offender were each wounded in the area of 69th and Sangamon streets around 2:15 p.m., according to Larry Langford, a spokesman for the Chicago Fire Department.

Chicago police spokesman Tom Ahern confirmed that an officer had been shot and was being taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in an unknown condition, but Langford said fire officials were being told the wound was “non-life-threatening.”
The alleged offender was being taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in critical condition, authorities said.. His age was unavailable.

The wounded officer is the second cop shot in Englewood since the start of June. On Wednesday, a female officer was wounded. The next day, a CPD canine officer and a deputy U.S. Marshal were wounded during a gun battle on the Northwest Side.
