I’m not just telling about people’s suffering, I’m trying to make these beautiful portraits, these environmental portraits that show the interaction of the person in their space. My work, it’s not something you’d put over your sofa. It’s not traditionally beautiful work. That’s why I do the books. This is my seventh book. I do the books because, in a way that an art exhibition at a museum or a gallery is not, it’s permanent. People are still talking about the Holocaust stuff. It’s led to a lot of discourse. And that’s what I want, that makes me very proud of the work and think that it’s successful in that it’s reached a broader audience, not just my audience.
