Red and Purple Line service on the CTA was suspended between the Howard and Belmont stations Friday afternoon because of a medical emergency on the tracks in the Edgewater neighborhood, according to the transit agency.
A person who was hit by a train has died, said Chicago Fire Department spokesman Larry Merritt. Several trains in the area were being evaucated.

Trains on the lines were only operating between the 95th and Belmont stations, the CTA said in an alert.
Shuttle buses have been requested in both directions between Howard and Belmont to provide connecting service, according to the alert, which added riders should “consider other service alternatives” to get to their destinations.
