An off-duty Chicago police officer was in serious-to-critical condition but was alert after being shot in the Irving Park neighborhood Tuesday afternoon, officials said.
Paramedics responded to the intersection of West Addison Street and North Elston Avenue Tuesday around 3:10 p.m. and took the woman to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, said Larry Merritt, spokesperson for the Chicago Fire Department.

Chicago police Superintendent David Brown was set to provide an update on the shooting of the off-duty officer around 4:30 p.m., according to a Twitter post from Tom Ahern, spokesperson for the Chicago Police Department.
