Edward Janiszewski is charged with aggravated battery to a child and posted bail following an initial court hearing Saturday, Oak Lawn police said in a news release Monday.
The baby was pronounced dead at 10:17 a.m. Sunday at Hope Children’s Hospital in Oak Lawn, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. She was identified as Adaline Janiszewski and lived in the 10100 block of Minnick Avenue, according to the office.

Police said they responded to the hospital on June 2 for a report of an infant with severe head and brain trauma, and police learned the child had initially been seen May 27 with what was thought to be a stomach ailment and dehydration.
Police said the child was brought back to the hospital May 30 and was unresponsive, with an examination showing head and brain trauma consistent with the baby being shaken.
Janiszewski was questioned at length by Oak Lawn investigators June 2, and admitted to police that, early on May 30, he had shaken the child and slammed her head on a cushion, police said.
Police said that once an autopsy is completed, there could be an upgrade of charges against the father.
