Following those 2017 allegations, the nonprofit theater’s board of directors hired an independent investigator to conduct an inquiry into Halberstam’s conduct. Upon its conclusion in the fall of 2017, the board of directors said that the investigator had found that Halberstam “has made inappropriate and insensitive comments in the workplace,” but that “the investigation did not support a finding of other inappropriate sexual behavior.” As a result, it said, Halberstam would participate in “compliance training and executive coaching sessions,” but would remain at the theater. He also apologized for offense caused.
