After Wednesday’s 2 to 4 inches of snowfall in the area, National Weather Service officials showed concern for commuters Thursday morning as wind gusts up to 40 mph threatened visibility on roadways and dropping temperatures could create slippery conditions.
Snow will continue to fall lightly over the area this morning with rates less than one quarter of an inch per hour, and with subfreezing temperatures, icy spots could develop.

Officials said blowing snow had been reported on rural roadways south of Interstate 88 and urged motorists to use caution if traveling and to allow extra stopping distance between vehicles.
Northwest winds were blowing 25 to 35 mph, creating blowing and drifting snow in open areas. In the days ahead, another period of snow was expected Friday morning and afternoon with wind gusts picking up to 40 mph. Accumulating snow was possible Saturday with temperatures in the single digits with subzero wind chills.
