A 32-year-old Joliet man has been charged with murder for allegedly fatally shooting his father Monday during an argument, police said.
Jakeem Williams was charged with three counts of murder and is being held in the Will County jail on a $5 million bond, according to the Will County sheriff’s office.
The Will County coroner’s office said Wednesday Matthew Woodfork III, 53, of Joliet, was pronounced dead at 4:42 p.m. Monday at the Ascension St. Joseph Medical Center emergency department of multiple gunshot wounds. The final cause and manner of death are pending following police, autopsy and toxicology reports.
At 3:57 p.m. Monday, police said officers responded to a call of a shooting at a home in the 700 block of Fairlane Drive, police said. When officers arrived, they found Woodfork laying in an open garage with gunshot wounds.
Williams went to his bedroom during an argument with his father to get a handgun and then shot him, police said.
Williams fled, police said, but during a search three other family members were able to exit the house.
After learning what kind of car Williams drives, police shared that information with area police. A short time later, police learned Williams was stopped by Will County sheriff deputies and Elwood Police Department officers at Route 53 and Hoff Road, and he was taken into custody, police said.
Williams next court date is April 18.
