Injuries were reported when an Amtrak train that was heading to Chicago from Los Angeles with about 243 passengers and 12 crew members derailed in Missouri Monday afternoon, Amtrak said in a statement.
Eight train cars and two locomotives derailed after hitting a dump truck that was blocking a public crossing in Mendon, Missouri, about 1:40 p.m., according to the statement from Amtrak. Local authorities are assisting Amtrak employees on the scene.

Mendon is about 84 miles northeast of Kansas City.
