Soldier Field, which is owned by the Chicago Park District, opened as Municipal Grant Park Stadium in 1924 but was rechristened Soldier Field the next year in memory of U.S. soldiers killed in combat. Its capacity and seating configuration have changed over the years, but there was a time when Soldier Field could accommodate more than 100,000 spectators.
