The grandparents of a 5-year-old Park Forest girl have been charged with murder in connection with her death, according to Park Forest police.
Klent Elwoods, 62, and his 57-year-old wife, Lisa Jones, are due to appear in bond court Monday on charges they abused their granddaughter, Jada Moore, who died July 15, according to police.
Police said they responded just before 11 p.m. July 14 to a home in the 300 block of Osage Street, where the couple live, for a report of an unresponsive child.
The girl was initially taken to a hospital then transferred to Comer Children’s Hospital in Chicago, where she died at about 9 a.m. July 15, according to police.
The girl exhibited signs of abuse, and Elwoods and Jones admitted to investigators that they abused the girl, police said.
The Cook County medical examiner’s office reported Sunday the girl’s death was the result of multiple injuries and child abuse.
Elwoods and Jones are scheduled to appear in bond court Monday at the Markham Courthouse.
