Ford recalls 661,000 Chicago-built Explorer SUVs over concerns of roof rail cover detaching

The Chicago Assembly Plant has been the exclusive production home of the Ford Explorer for more than a decade. In 2019, Ford spent $1 billion to transform the nearly century-old facility on the city’s Southeast Side, which phased out production of the Taurus sedan to focus on building SUVs, including the Explorer, Lincoln Aviator and Police Interceptor.
