Cook County sheriff’s police said Tuesday they are investigating two recent homicides in the south suburbs, including one that left a 16-year-old boy dead.
On Saturday, a 31-year-old Ford Heights man, Markus Simmons, suffered gunshot wounds at an address in the 1400 block of Diplomat Street, according to the Lake County, Indiana, coroner’s office.

He was pronounced dead shortly after 3 a.m. Saturday at Franciscan Health Dyer and his death ruled a homicide, according to the coroner.
In a separate shooting, 16-year-old Damien Meyers died from a gunshot wound in the 1600 block of Glenwood-Dyer Road in unincorporated Cook County, near Lynwood.

He was pronounced dead shortly after 8 p.m. Saturday at Franciscan Health, and his death ruled a homicide, according to the coroner.
Sheriff’s police said that no additional information was immediately available regarding the shootings.
