Snow is possible for the Chicago area Sunday night after last week’s summer-like temperatures.
The National Weather Service Chicago has told people living in northern Illinois and northwest Indiana to “bundle up” this evening, as the temperature will drop throughout the day Sunday and reach the mid-to-upper 30-degree range by sunset.
According to the weather service, Sunday’s rain showers will turn to snow by early evening, and snow will continue into Monday morning. Several inches are possible north of I-88 and west of the Chicago metro area, likely leading to slushy snow accumulations, the weather service said on Twitter. Gusty winds up to 40 miles per hour will accompany the snow.
Chicago-area residents should allow for extra travel time on Monday morning as reduced visibility and wet roads are likely, the weather service also said..
After Monday’s “cold and blustery” conditions, weather officials expect temperatures to rise throughout the week. Tuesday will be a sunny, clear day with temperatures in the 50s, , and by the lake, temperatures will be in the 40s.
Thunderstorms are possible Wednesday and Thursday, the weather servicereported. Temperatures could reach a high of 75 degrees on both days as storms move through the area.
