Bryant eventually was called up on April 17, when he could accumulate 171 days of service time, one day short of a full year. Instead of being a free agent in 2021, Bryant’s free agency was delayed, and he and agent Scott Boras filed a grievance that ultimately proved to be unsuccessful. He was dealt to the San Francisco Giants in his seventh year after the Cubs failed to sign him to a multiyear contract, and is now one of dozens of free agents waiting for the lockout to end to sign with someone.
