Chicago’s Paper of Record Backs Surging Candidate
CHICAGO, IL — The Chicago Tribune Editorial Board announced its endorsement of Paul Vallas for Mayor this morning. The endorsement from the Tribune caps an eventful week for the Vallas campaign that also included notable endorsements from leading elected officials and continued forward momentum in the polls.
In the endorsement, the Tribune wrote of Vallas:
“Demonstrably, Chicago is a city in need of a turnaround, and, in Paul Vallas, we’re endorsing a smart, passionate and experienced candidate for mayor who long has specialized in doing precisely that.
Unapologetically wonkish, the Chicago-born Vallas, who was CEO of Chicago Public Schools from 1995 to 2001 and of the School District of Philadelphia from 2002 to 2007, has successfully positioned himself as the candidate with detailed plans and fresh ideas, and has nationally recognized expertise in city financing, policing and public education, the three components of city life most in dire need of attention.”
“Winning the endorsement of the Chicago Tribune is the latest proof that our campaign is picking up major momentum as we get closer to Election Day,” said Vallas. “I’ve always been a problem solver throughout my career in public service, and it’s clear to me that with the right leadership our city can thrive once again as the best place in the country to live, work, raise a family, open a business or serve the community.
