In 2018, you might recall, Cody Parkey missed a total of 15 kicks between the preseason, regular season and playoffs combined, none more notorious than his season-ending “Double Doink” gaffe in the Bears’ NFC divisional-round loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. That traumatic miscue triggered a frantic and sometimes amusing search for a new kicker in the offseason of 2019. And when Parkey’s successor, Eddy Pineiro, had his own hiccups that next fall, Nagy’s trust in his kicking operation shrunk even further.
