Baffert, who wins a lot of very important horse races, also is incredibly unlucky, it appears. According to the Louisville Courier-Journal, 31 of Baffert’s horses — including a whopping five in the 12-month period that ended on Derby Day last weekend — have been flagged for medical violations. Gamine, which finished third in last year’s Kentucky Oaks race, was disqualified after testing for betamethasone and its owners had to hand back their winnings.

As sports TV rights costs have gone up (and ratings have gone down), ESPN has been relentlessly cost-cutting everywhere else. The company cut 500 jobs in one round of layoffs just last year, the latest of several rounds the last few years as the network concentrates its spending on a few big-ticket names and items.

Meyer has said repeatedly that signing players who already know his methodology would be helpful in Year 1. Tebow would become the sixth player on the Jaguars roster who previously played for Meyer, joining Farrell, running back Carlos Hyde, guard Andrew Norwell, defensive end Lerentee McCray and defensive tackle DaVon Hamilton.
It is the same substance found in Baffert-trained filly Gamine, leading to her disqualification from third place in the 2020 Kentucky Oaks. Baffert did not appeal that ruling. The trainer, who has denied giving the steroid to Medina Spirit, has cited contamination as a reason for this and previous violations.
Medina Spirit was found to have 21 picograms of betamethasone, which is sometimes used to treat pain and inflammation in horses. It was the same drug found in Baffert-trained filly Gamine, who finished third in last fall’s Kentucky Oaks before being disqualified following a test. Baffert was fined $1,500.
“But I think that there’s so much important stuff going on, and especially the past year,” Osaka added. “I think a lot of unexpected things have happened and if it’s putting people at risk, and if it’s making people very uncomfortable, then it definitely should be a discussion, which I think it is as of right now.”
“We have three really good individuals that can play some basketball,” forward Thad Young said. “I love playing with those guys, and I think they’re going to continue to be great going forward. Obviously, Zach and Vooch are our prime guys, but Coby (White) is coming along the way and Pat is getting better each and every game.
“Getting the first one out of the way, that Pérez high moon shot with the wind and everything, that was nice,” Mendick said after the game. “Got that one out of the way and then I was like, all right, you can take a breath, relax and enjoy it.”
