Jason Heyward appeared to put the Cubs ahead in the seventh when he bested Dodgers lefty Garrett Cleavinger for a solo homer that snuck inside the left-field foul pole. The third-base umpire immediately signaled a home run, but after a conference among the umps it was ruled a foul ball on the field. Cubs manager David Ross challenged the decision, but the call stood after a 1 minute, 50 second replay review to keep the game tied 2-2.

Several contenders, including Primoz Roglic, went down. So far, only Jasha Sutterlin of Germany has pulled out of the Tour with injuries from the incident.

“I tell people, even under the best circumstances — and I can only speak for myself, I can’t speak for anyone else who does what I do for a living — this is not an easy job,” Hughes said. “I feel like I have to be all in every day, every minute, every play of every game. Because if you’re not, it is so easy to make mistakes you wouldn’t believe it.

The Cubs’ 1-0 lead in the first on Kris Bryant’s 15th home run of the season didn’t hold for long. Anthony Rizzo mishandled a ball between his legs, which gave Cody Bellinger time to score from third on the eventual groundout. The Dodgers added a run off Cubs starter Jake Arrieta in the third on Zach McKinstry’s homer for a 2-1 lead/.
