It was a given that the Hawks would leave de Haan unprotected, and they also exposed Zadorov. He brings size at 6-foot-6 and 235 pounds and often took on an opponent’s “A” player on defense, but his puck handling was sometimes a liability. The Hawks probably want to bring the 26-year-old back, especially after trading Brandon Saad to get him in October 2020, but if he’s holding out for much more than last season’s $3.2 million salary, then the Hawks might be inclined to let the Kraken take the contract headache off their hands and free up cap space.
Because skateboarding is so fluid and inventive, with hundreds of tricks, variants and possibilities to choose from, judging is less codified and more subjective than other sports. Judges will scrutinize the difficulty and execution of tricks and runs, how skaters use and navigate obstacles, and will be looking to reward originality and variety.
Surfing is a $10 billion industry, yet professional surfing, led by the World Surf League, largely remains niche and little understood. Surfing requires a well-rounded athleticism, including immense strength, agility, and grace to pull off maneuvers based on what the big, wild ocean delivers in the moment — think of the vagaries of the ocean as the fourth dimension in this sport many see as a spiritual pursuit. There’s hope now that the visually stunning sport will finally get its due with a mainstream audience at the Games, though some viewers may struggle to follow given the complexity and metrics of competition.
“Speed climbing is very, very different from the other two disciplines,” said Meg Coyne, national team manager and assistant coach at USA Climbing. “First of all, it’s rehearsed. Second, all of the mannerisms, habits and techniques are effectively reversed. For athletes to do well on speed, they need train for something that’s totally outside the habits they have for the other disciplines.”
After Matt Carpenter struck out to start the inning, the Cardinals loaded the bases on an error by third baseman Patrick Wisdom, a Yadier Molina single and a walk to Tommy Edman. Báez botched a grounder off Paul DeJong’s bat to bring home the first run, then airmailed a throw to the plate on Harrison Bader’s grounder, giving him errors on back-to-back plays.
“I never experienced an injury as severe as that one,” Robert said. “My first thought: ‘Oh, this is really bad. I don’t know if I’m going to come back this season.’ It was pain. But luckily it wasn’t as bad as I thought at first, and then when I got the news I will be able to come back this season, I felt much better.
“Somewhat because you’ve had so many good years playing with this core, this group,” Hendricks said. “But playing with guys that long is weird because coming up, you’re playing with new guys every single year. The luxury of playing with that many good players, that good of a group, for that long of a time, that was the weird part I think and the part we didn’t really expect or know how to react to.
The Twins loaded the bases with no outs in the eighth against reliever Garrett Crochet, who struck out Trevor Larnach. Ryan Burr entered to face Nelson Cruz, who hit a sacrifice fly to center. Jorge Polanco followed with an RBI single, making it 3-1.
“I have no idea. You know, I’m not trying to be glib. I’m just totally transparent,” Popovich said. “We’ve thought about, ‘Are they going to have jet lag? Is it going to be like two days later after they land and they’ll be OK?’ … In some ways, it might depend on if everybody else is healthy. If they’re not, they’ve got to play. So, we’ve gone over lots of scenarios. We haven’t figured it out yet, that’s for sure.”
“Accordingly, on Monday, the Olympic athletes moved to separate lodging accommodations and a separate training facility, as originally planned, and will continue their preparation for the Games,” the organization said in a statement. “The entire delegation continues to be vigilant and will maintain strict protocols while they are in Tokyo.”
