“It’s been tough, man, to be honest with you,” Engel said. “Every time something happens, go to the trainers and having to say, ‘Hey something’s going on here,’ and the next thing you know I figure out it’s going to set me back a week, two weeks, whatever the case may be. So that’s been really hard. But I’m excited to get going again. I take a lot of pride in trying to prepare my body the best way I can. The whole injury bug’s been tough, but I’m going to put that behind me and get going and trying to win a ring.”

“We’ve run him out there consistently, I would say, as much as anybody outside of the guys that we traded away,” Ross said. “I just continued to say his track record says he’s going to be good at some point. … Maybe if we were in a playoff race and it’s a little bit harder where we have to see it, and then I’m like, OK, there it is. The Bulls pulled off four sign-and-trades in August, acquiring DeRozan, Ball, Jones Jr., a lottery-protected 2022 first-round pick (via the Portland Trail Blazers), a 2023 second-round pick (via the Denver Nuggets) and a $5 million trade exception all in exchange for Tomáš Satoranský, Garrett Temple, Thad Young, Lauri Markkanen, Daniel Theis, a 2025 first-round pick and a pair of second-rounders in 2022 and ‘25.
“I think that there’s, even more now than when I started playing, there’s so many overreactions that happen on a week-to-week basis,” Rodgers said. “So it’s nice to come out and have a good performance and get the trolls off our back for at least a week.”

“Having that energy every single game, everybody in the game watching, paying attention, picking things out, that’s right where we need to be for every single game. It doesn’t matter the opponent, it doesn’t matter the series score, it doesn’t matter home (or) road.”
“What happens is, as a play caller, you try to go to some of the stuff that you know he knows where the bones are buried in the play,” Nagy said. “And so you want to be able to help him out that way. But at the same point in time, it’s your job as a backup to make sure that you know the entire call sheet inside out, which he did and he does. So really the whole play sheet, the call sheet, was open.”
