“We got some real great shooting at times, a better night from our guards, and we still got points from Bri Jones, we got AT going, our bench just really bailed us out,” Miller said. “It was balanced tonight, it was the versatility of our lineup that we didn’t play through just one person.”
While Hoerner believes he can handle the position as the regular starter, his versatility could prove more important to the team’s roster construction. It’s also an area that will have ample options to upgrade through free agency, including former Cub Javier Báez, Carlos Correa, Trevor Story, Corey Seager and Marcus Semien.

“I loved how he practiced (Wednesday),” Lazor said. “What is the ultimate big-picture answer to your questions, like what comes from that? I don’t know. But I love what I saw. To me, that was positive evidence that even though we had bad, he’s going to turn it to good by learning from it. I thought he came out and really had a great practice.”
