The victim was driving in the 2300 block of North Elmwood Avenue at about 10 p.m. when he and his passenger, a Waukegan woman in her 20s, encountered a man in a parking lot. During the encounter, the suspect fired into the victim’s vehicle, wounding the victim in the head and shoulder.

White was arrested in the 11800 block of South Princeton Avenue a few minutes after the attack, police said. In addition to the attempted murder charge, he faces charges of aggravated discharge of a firearm, unlawful use of a weapon and possessing a gun with a defaced serial number. He also had two warrants for his arrest and was scheduled to appear in Cook County bond court midday Thursday.

The man, 36, was pulled from the water by Fire Department divers, according to police. Crews performed CPR on the man in an ambulance, according to fire officials, and he wastaken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, according to police.
