Young shark fans can join Shedd Aquarium for one of its weeklong summer camps for kindergarten through fifth grade. Campers will explore the impressive world of aquatic animals, uncover amazing adaptations, meet animals up-close, explore Shedd Aquarium habitats, and participate in hands-on activities, outdoor games, crafts and more. One day of the program will focus on Indo-Pacific animals in Wild Reef, home to many of the sharks living at Shedd. Camps are held July 12-16, July 19-23, July 26-30, August 2-6 from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m., and cost $400 for nonmembers.
When Humboldt Park resident Erica Serrano first leased the space inside the pavilion in 2015, her goal was to create a cafe that would allow the community to connect there. Serrano, with a business partner, opened the doors of Café Alejo on July 4 of that year, after build-out work that involved her extended family.
“The SROs at the school, plus the staff, work if a student has a beef with another student. The SROs and the staff are there to minimize that, so it doesn’t develop into something further. It’s to protect the students that are there,” Clay said. “We looked at what we had and what we were pretty satisfied with, and we decided to stick with that.”

Police said Floyd Steele, 34, had been shot multiple times while parked in a car in the 17100 block of Grant Street. He was taken to a hospital in Hammond, Indiana, where he was later pronounced dead. The Lake County, Indiana coroner’s office determined his death was a homicide.

The older man was pronounced dead at the University of Chicago Medical Center at 3:38 p.m., while the younger man — who, according to data from the Cook County medical examiner’s office was 19, not 20 — was pronounced dead at the scene at 3:24 p.m.
Rabbi Lazer Hershkovich, who regularly provides spiritual care to Avantara patients and staff through his work with Chabad and F.R.E.E. of Niles and Chabad Cares, called the allegations “beyond horrific.” He stressed, however, that the vast majority of staff have “a strong sense of caring, a strong sense of responsibility,” based on his interactions with them.
As is routine, the Civilian Office of Police Accountability, or COPA, is reviewing the specifics of the case, including launching a comprehensive use of force investigation, police said. A request seeking more information from COPA did not receive an immediate response Monday morning.
A Dodge traveling north in the 1500 block of North DuSable Lake Shore Drive hit another Dodge at 6:25 p.m. Sunday, officials said. The second Dodge then struck a Lexus. Kellie Bartoli, a police spokeswoman, said she did not have access to the report to see what model the vehicles were.
