“There are real operational questions around what it would look like in a setting to make that decision, so we continue to talk with CPS, and they’ll be making an announcement, as will other schools,” Arwady said about COVID-19 policies. “But we are encouraging really making sure that we’re doing everything we can, first and foremost, to have parents and guardians feel comfortable about having their children back in school in person to make up some of that learning loss and work on the social and emotional piece that is so critical.”

“It’s such a unique experience that no other place offers in Illinois,” said Mic Middleton, the site supervisor for the natural resources department. “We had so many people where, now they’re 50, 60 years old that said, ‘I remember going down there as a kid, and now I’m bringing my grandkids down there.’ It’s really neat to see that this little hidden gem in southwest Illinois is reopening.”

And we have to know that what we’re doing, and our approach, is not and has not been working,” Hairston said during debate on the plan.
Surveillance video shows Jordt allegedly following the man out of the bathroom and continuing to throw punches, although he didn’t make contact, according to Auguste. There is no audio on the video, but a witness, the 19-year-old’s grandmother, who was waiting outside the bathroom, accused Jordt of calling the man racial slurs outside the bathroom. The surveillance video also did not capture the altercation in the bathroom.
“The City is confident that these measures have improved the work environment on the lakefront. As NPR reminds: “Late last month, on near-party lines, the House approved the select committee after Republicans blocked the formation of an independent commission to investigate the incident. One of the Republicans who voted to approve the committee, Wyoming’s Liz Cheney, was picked by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., to be on the panel.”
The state finally announced in September that only 21 companies out of more than 4,000 applications were given perfect scores to qualify for a lottery for the licenses. Unsuccessful applicants filed suit, claiming that the winners were unfairly dominated by white, wealthy, politically connected investors, despite the intent of the law to involve more minority-owned entrepreneurs.
