Mitch comes to Chicago from Charleston, South Carolina, where he has been the executive editor of The Post and Courier since 2013. In this time, Mitch led the team to a 2015 Pulitzer Prize Gold Medal for Public Service and the paper has been a finalist in four other Pulitzer categories including breaking news, local reporting, feature photography, and feature writing. Under Mitch, the paper also earned a James Beard Award for its food content and a Gerald Loeb Award for its business content. In addition to running The Post and Courier newsroom, Mitch headed up the digital subscription team.

Emonte Morgan, 21, was charged with first-degree murder, two counts of attempted murder of a peace officer, one count of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, and one count of unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, police and prosecutors announced Monday afternoon. His brother, Eric Morgan, 22, faces charges of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and unlawful use of a weapon by a felon as well as one count of obstructing justice. They are expected to appear for bond hearings in Cook County court on Tuesday.
Terry Kennedy, of Long Beach, California, was charged with first-degree murder on August 2, in addition to an earlier aggravated battery charge, after the death of Josiah Kassahun on July 31, DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert B. Berlin and Oakbrook Terrace Police Chief Casey Calvello announced Monday.

Former Lake County Coroner Dr. Thomas Rudd, who was not the coroner in charge when Rosiles died, said he assisted Baden with the independent autopsy. Baden is awaiting further evidence, but believes Rosiles’ death was a homicide — caused by another person — rather than an accident, Rudd said.
Senior Pastor Dave Dummitt received the test results Saturday in response to a family member testing positive earlier that morning, said Haley Bodine, executive director of the office of the senior pastor. Dummitt immediately isolated at home and told church leaders, in order to notify those who had come into contact with him in recent days, following federal guidelines.
