One of the men was identified as Darion Hood, 27, of the same block on which he was shot, according to information from the Cook County medical examiner’s office. He was pronounced dead at Mount Sinai Hospital at 1:07 p.m. Monday. The second victim, 26, was pronounced dead at 1:13 p.m., also at Mount Sinai Hospital.
The state reported four additional fatalities Monday, bringing average number of daily deaths to 13 over the past week, up slightly from the previous week’s average of 12. A month ago, the state was averaging nine deaths per day. In all, there have been 23,624 COVID-19 deaths statewide since the pandemic began, according to the Illinois Department of Public Health.

The two also noted the Census Bureau’s renewed efforts at privacy protection, in which some specific counts that could reveal identity information have been masked. The policy, called “differential privacy,” may “result in inaccuracies, especially in more ethnically and racially diverse communities,” they said.
At approximately 3:39 a.m., a 25-year-old woman was driving in a Blue Honda CRV heading southbound on the interstate. Just south of Cicero Avenue, the woman unexpectedly lost control of the car, which left the roadway and overturned at the center median, according to state police.

Illinois Senate President Don Harmon contracts breakthrough case of COVID-19, says symptoms are mild
As of Wednesday, the most recent data available, there have been 899 hospitalizations and 189 deaths among fully vaccinated people in Illinois since the beginning of the year, according to the state Department of Public Health. Those deaths account for about 2.7% of all coronavirus-related deaths this year.

“That’s applicable to Republican cities and Republican towns and Democrat cities and Democrat towns across the state,” said House Majority Leader Greg Harris, a Chicago Democrat. “Most of the things that were in the budget are certainly statewide and nonpartisan issues of getting our economic engines back going, getting the hospitality business open, getting the arts, culture, museum, entertainment businesses, which are huge drivers of employment, back open.”
