“The delta variant of COVID-19 has demonstrated its stronger transmission among unvaccinated young people, and we are deeply concerned that Chicago Public Schools’ current plan for students and staff to return to school buildings rolls back many important safety mitigation standards that can undermine the district’s objective of increasing equity for students especially in light of an ever-changing pandemic that is increasingly harming younger age groups,” Ald. Maria Hadden, 49th, and Democratic state Sen. Cristina Pacione-Zayas wrote in a letter Sunday to Mayor Lori Lightfoot, Chicago Board of Education President Miguel del Valle and interim CPS CEO José Torres.

The two men who died were not identified as of Sunday afternoon. Preliminary information from the Cook County medical examiner’s office said a 30-year-old man who died at 3:31 a.m. was one of the victims; the other was a 29-year-old man who died at 3:15 a.m. However, their names were not released and it was not immediately clear which of the men was driving and was shot, and which was in the back seat and died because of the crash.
The Chicago Fire Department took two men, 39 and 40, to the University of Chicago Medical Center. The younger man was in fair condition after being shot in the ankle; the older man was in critical condition after being shot in the lower backside and leg. Three other people took themselves to hospitals with gunshot wounds to their limbs. A man, 32, was in good condition at Advocate Trinity Hospital. Two women, 44 and 25, were in fair condition at the University of Chicago Medical Center and good condition at Advocate Trinity Hospital, respectively.
Stay off piers, jetties and breakwaters on Lake Michigan, the National Weather Service warned on social media Sunday morning. Waves on the lake — which may reach as high as seven feet in the Chicago area — could be “high enough to sweep you off and into the water,” the agency said.

The vehicle they were inside struck a parked car on that block. The older victim suffered a wound to the left shoulder, and was taken in critical condition to Holy Cross Hospital. The younger man was shot in the head, and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, according to police.

Kelly, 54, is charged in with racketeering conspiracy alleging the singer was the head of a criminal enterprise that used a series of managers, bodyguards, runners and others to target young victims, groom them, abuse them, and manipulate or blackmail them to keep them under Kelly’s control.
