Meanwhile, Daly’s lawyer, Thomas Needham, said his client is a decorated Chicago cop with numerous police department awards, including the Carter H. Harrison award, one of the two highest honors given to the city’s first responders. Daly received the award in 2009 after, according to city officials, he fatally shot a man who pointed a gun at his partner on the West Side the year before.
In a statement, Circuit Court Clerk Iris Martinez said the detection of the troubling activity on Aug. 13 triggered an investigation that has not yet concluded. She did not elaborate on what the “unusual activity” was but said no personal information or court records were affected because those are on a separate server.
“The advantage of (rapid antigen tests) is they are quick and easy to use and give a result right away,” said Elizabeth McNally, director of the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine Center for Genetic Medicine. “So if a person feels they had an exposure, these tests can be done at home and give a quick result.”
“At this moment the scene is safe and secure,” according to a statement released by the city. “Kankakee City Police report several suspects in custody. The investigation is active, and further details will be provided with updates in a few moments.
A: Those included in the new vaccine mandates include all prekindergarten through 12th grade teachers and staff, higher education personnel, higher education students and health care workers in settings such as hospitals, nursing homes, physicians’ offices and urgent care centers.
Officers first were called to an alley in the 600 block of East 106th Street in Roseland around 4:10 p.m. Wednesday, where a 19-year-old man had been standing when someone fired at him, police said. He was shot in the chest and back and he was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center, where he died.
“If a student does not show up, (the school) will be calling every number they can find and working to reconnect the student to school. If that kind of process does not work, then we will once again go knocking on doors, doing home visits and other types of outreach that will help us find these students,” Erin Galfer, deputy chief of CPS’ Office of College and Career Success, said at Wednesday’s Chicago Board of Education meeting.
On Wednesday, he dismissed a conservative radio commentator who has regularly opposed Pritzker’s mitigation efforts, including at public rallies. After the commentator questioned the efficacy of masking, Pritzker contended she had a political agenda and spread misinformation and said, “We now need to protect our children, we need to protect the people in our communities, parents, grandparents, teachers.”
