Officers Jeffery Shafer and Victor Guebara were each charged with aggravated battery and official misconduct, both felonies, and are scheduled to appear for a bond hearing later Wednesday in the Leighton Criminal Court building, according to court records and Tandra Simonton, a spokeswoman for the Cook County state’s attorney’s office.
As they investigated, northbound lanes of the Edens were closed at 7:15 a.m., officials said. Ella French was shot and killed while conducting a traffic stop of three people in a vehicle just after 9 p.m. Aug. 7 in West Englewood. Her partner, Carlos Yanez Jr., was seriously wounded after being shot and faces the possibility of a lifetime disability, his family said.

Two of the victims in the Sunday crash, a 39-year-old woman and the cyclist, a 55-year-old man, were in critical condition after suffering head trauma, police said. The third victim, the 39-year-old man who had been walking with the woman, was in good condition with leg pain. Allen was treated for bruises on his face.
Inside, police asked the baby’s name, age and her age, court records show. She gave the boy’s age as just under 4 months, but was later confirmed as 7 months old. Gary Police Officer Simon Lillie, also a longtime West Side High School resource officer, recognized the teen, records state.

Only six of the more than 500 people charged in the investigation have been sentenced, according to Department of Justice records. The first, Bloomington, Indiana, resident Anna Morgan-Lloyd, pleaded guilty in June to parading, demonstrating and picketing inside the Capitol and received 36 months of probation.
