The attempted robbery happened Oct. 9, 2012, at 290 E. Chicago Ave. while the defendant was on probation for aggravated battery to a police officer, the prosecutor said Saturday. Romito said, adding Westbrooks then smiled and walked away without picking up the phone. He pleaded guilty and served two years in prison.

The victims were among a large group when someone inside a black 4-door Nissan opened fire. A 22-year-old man was hit in the shoulder, and another man, 27, suffered wounds to the back. Both men were taken to mount Sinai Hospital and listed in good condition. Two woman, ages 25 and 33, got themselves to Mount Sinai with the youngest suffering a graze wound to the hip, and the oldest being shot in a leg. Both were listed in good condition, police said.

House Democrats earlier this year ousted their longtime leader, former Speaker Michael Madigan, who is under the cloud of the federal probe. Jelani Day, a 25-year-old graduate student at ISU, was last seen the morning of Aug. 24 walking into a store called Beyond / Hello in downstate Bloomington, according to the Bloomington Police Department. Day’s family, from Danville, has offered a $25,000 reward, and started a GoFundMe to add to that. As of Friday afternoon, it had raised over $7,000.

“When outbreaks happen in school, they often start outside of school because of activities that families are engaged in that pose some risk for contracting COVID,” said Carnethon, with Northwestern. “The fear and concern that will naturally arise when a school is labeled as having an outbreak and may have to shut down in whole or part could result in some positives. Namely, experiencing an outbreak should serve as a reminder to families about their responsibilities outside of school in keeping the community and our schoolchildren safe.”
