“Most districts in the country have their own police forces where they can train them in a certain way on how to work with our children. We sort of have a little bit of a hybrid here, and so that’s something that I just want to explore with our police chief, with the mayor, and really try to see what’s the best solution for our schools. But like I said, my commitment is, I need to make sure we’re meeting the needs of parents, and parents want schools to be safe.”

Meanwhile, California and Puerto Rico were taken off the list, keeping the total at 48 states and three territories from which Chicago health officials are advising unvaccinated travelers to take extra COVID-19 precautions. Those recommendations include a one-week quarantine after returning to the city, although the city continues to urge people who want to travel to just get vaccinated.

Police referred to the break-in as a home invasion but did not immediately say whether it was a home invasion robbery or provide information about whether anything was stolen. It was also unclear how investigators pieced together the sequence of events. A police spokeswoman would not say if detectives were able to get a statement from the victim, a witness, surveillance images or a combination of those sources.

The technicians also submit a sample of shell casings, whether they’re from a test-fired gun or one from a crime scene, into a computer that uploads high-resolution images of the evidence into a database for the National Integrated Ballistic Information Center, or NIBIN, a program that has been around since the 1990s and is administered by the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

Hinsdale police were called on Jan. 14, 2019 to a report of an unresponsive person at her home, the news release said. Upon arrival, authorities found the victim deceased in the residence, the apparent victim of a drug overdose. Authorities recovered baggies in the victim’s bedroom containing a substance, later determined to be a heroin/fentanyl mixture, the release said.
