“She was vibrant. She was inquisitive and very, very intelligent. She was just a bright child, a bright spirit. She took to people, she would talk to everyone. I’d tell her, ‘Don’t talk to strangers,’ but she was always so open, bubbly and welcoming to anyone she came across. Everyone gravitated to her,” Regina Broughton said.
“We want every one of our members who can safely be vaccinated, to get vaccinated. But surely you are aware that our schools confront desperate shortages of staff, from janitors and bus aides, to substitute teachers and school nurses,” CTU President Jesse Sharkey, SEIU Local 73 President Dian Palmer and SEIU Local 1 President Tom Balanoff said in a Wednesday letter to Lightfoot.
Calumet City looks to use the struggling River Oaks shopping center, southeast of Torrence Avenue and 159th Street, just east of Interstate 94, for a 150,000-square-foot casino. The city teamed up in the $275 million project with Southland Live Casino, a partnership that includes the privately held firm Delaware North, which operates a casino in Illinois.
Snyder, 43, was indicted in November 2016, on the same day former Lake County Sheriff John Buncich was indicted for accepting bribes in a towing scheme. Since then, Snyder’s case docket has 559 filings. Buncich, 75, has been in prison in Springfield, Missouri, since early 2018, serving a 15-year sentence.
At Wednesday’s Board of Commissioners meeting, Juanita Irizarry, the executive director of Friends of the Parks, said the group applauded Lightfoot’s call that led to Kelly’s resignation but added that the agency’s Board of Commissioners had also not responded to the abuse scandal, among other issues, “with adequate urgency or sense that you are accountable to all Chicagoans for these things.”
Much has changed since then, however. For one, Spann, 44, is now standing trial on federal racketeering charges, rather than a simple murder count in state court. The Rangel killing is just one piece of an extensive indictment that places him at the head of the Four Corner Hustlers, which prosecutors say controlled the West Side drug trade by robbing competitors, killing rivals and terrorizing the community.
Regarding the MacArthur report, the ShotSpotter spokesperson said it “draws erroneous conclusions from researchers’ interpretation of police report categorizations, falsely equating them with no shots fired,” and that a separate review found the report relied on “deeply flawed analyses of incomplete data that the Center clearly did not understand or ignored.”

Officers were called to the 1000 block of North California Avenue in Humboldt Park around 7:25 p.m. Tuesday, near Humboldt Park Health, also known as Norwegian American Hospital. A city ambulance was taken, allegedly by a 33-year-old woman, according to Chicago police.
