In December 1978, Gacy, a politically active contractor, confessed to killing dozens of young men and boys. After being provided a map by Gacy, authorities found 29 of his 33 victims in a crawlspace beneath his northwest suburban home. Four other victims were dumped from a bridge, but later found.

Elmhurst police were also notified as there was a missing persons report filed with the department for Cefolia on Aug. 8, 2020. Cefolia’s vehicle was found parked outside Waterfall Glen that same month, but he was never found after a search that included multiple law enforcement agencies, volunteers and trained bloodhounds.

However, when questioned about why the troubled water system in Dixmoor and beyond was not addressed sooner, authorities said it was wrong to assign blame. Cook County Commissioner Deborah Sims, a Democrat from Posen, said she’s known for decades the pipes are leaking water but “we can’t just go out and just dig up the street” to fix them.
There, a 91-year-old cab driver was sitting in a blue Hyundai when someone approached on foot and forced him out of his vehicle at gunpoint. After he complied, the gunman shot him in the right hand and right leg, police said. He was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center where he was listed in fair condition, police said.
