Last week, City Council Rules Committee consultant Anne Schaeffer mentioned in a presentation to aldermen that her analysis showed the population of the Latino Caucus’ redrawn 11th Ward, including Chinatown, fell just short of being more than 50% Asian. Supporters of that version countered their 11th Ward in fact does include an Asian majority.
Killed in the shooting was Carl Dennison, 17, of Skokie. Four other teens were shot, including a 14-year-old girl who is still in critical condition and a 17-year-old boy who remains hospitalized, police said. The teens all knew each other, and two were in a car and three others were standing nearby when the shooting occurred, police said.
“We are not seeing, in any way, cases in schools at rates any different than we would expect them to be, based on what we’re seeing in the community. So when you see the rates in the community go up, you’ll see rates in schools go up. When you see rates in the community go down, you’ll see rates in schools go down,” Arwady said.

Geneva firefighters were called to Bar Technologies, 500 Power Fluid Drive, just after 7 p.m. Thursday after getting a report about a person being trapped in a piece of machinery at the business. Fire department officials said that by the time they arrived, the man was removed from the machinery by co-workers.
Campaign finance records through early December show Giannoulias has about $3.8 million in cash on hand, more than his three Democratic opponents combined. Valencia has about $820,000 in cash available, while Dowell has about $520,000 in cash, and Moore has reported having about $105,000 in the bank, the records show.
“I talked to my team. We did 4 months of engagement and talked to a number of different developers and many, like Amazon who is building 4 new sites in Chicago, is on board,” Lightfoot said. “I appreciate your clients concerns and if this proves to be a problem, we will fix it. But what we have right now is big polluting concerns … can get a permit with little oversight and pollute neighborhoods and there is little you as alderman or me as mayor can do about it. That is the problem we are trying to fix.”

Within days, investigators learned the identity of brothers Abimbola and Olabinjo Osundairo, who caught a ride-hailing service near the scene. Until the brothers returned from Nigeria in February, sources said, police had one directive: Treat Smollett as a victim until the facts suggest otherwise. For weeks, police kept up the charade as they continued their investigation. The rest is history.
The lawsuit, which was filed in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, was dismissed July 16 after a settlement was reached. Financial terms were not disclosed publicly, but Federal Election Commission records show Chehade has received payments of $29,500 from Newman’s campaign account from July through September.
