The pandemic has fueled a major shift to online grocery shopping, with nationwide sales growing by 64% in 2020, and another 12.3% last year, to more than $122 billion, according to research firm eMarketer. Farmstead, a California-based online grocer, joined the competition in Chicago this week, launching its service with free delivery to the city and suburbs out of a 30,000-square foot warehouse in Franklin Park.
“We’re waiting for the city to make their decision, and they know we’re waiting,” said Larita Clark, CEO of the Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority, which owns McCormick Place. “Once they get to the point where either they’ve shortlisted or made a decision, if it includes our property, we expect them to then come and have a conversation with us.”

“The store is owned in trust and I’m the trustee and this has been my decision. At this juncture of the Blue Goose I am the sole decision-maker, and I spoke with some of my advisors,” Lencioni, 47, said. “I realized late last summer that some of the goals that I had for Blue Goose to get it in a place where it could be stable, I didn’t have confidence I could get it there so at that point, I didn’t want to get into a spot where I was doing business in a way that would be irresponsible.”
