The store, which is expected to open July 15, will carry Wilson’s new apparel along with a selection of sporting equipment focusing on high-performance and special edition products, like a Chicago-specific version of Wilson’s A2000 baseball glove, said Gordon Devin, president of Wilson Sportswear.
Because the mansion long has been used as office space, it likely will require considerable renovations to convert it to single-family use. For instance, its six bathrooms lack bathing units such as showers or tubs. The mansion also has nine fireplaces, 10-foot-tall wrought iron doors, intricate moldings, stained-glass windows, marble staircases, elaborate plaster ceilings, carved stone mantelpieces and herringbone-patterned hardwood floors.
Hiring in June was particularly strong in a category that includes mainly restaurants, bars and hotels, which collectively absorbed the brunt of the layoffs from the recession; this category added 343,000 jobs. Governments added 188,000 positions, mostly in education. And hiring by retailers picked up, with 67,000 jobs added.
A Chicago native who grew up in a modest Southwest Side bungalow, Driehaus graduated from DePaul University and launched his career in 1968 at former Chicago investment bank A.G. Becker. A successful portfolio manager, he went on to work at several different brokerage firms before founding Driehaus Capital Management in 1982. He rose to prominence in Chicago’s philanthropic circles, supporting a number of causes, including the preservation of historical architecture.
That group includes Advocate Trinity Hospital, Jackson Park Hospital and Medical Center, St. Bernard Hospital, Chicago Family Health Center, The New Roseland Community Hospital, Holy Cross Hospital, South Shore Hospital and University of Chicago Medicine, among others.

Some big employers have already adopted a $15 per hour minimum wage nationwide, including Target and Best Buy, which announced the increases last year. Costco raised its minimum wage to $16 per hour earlier this year and Amazon, which raised starting wages to $15 per hour in 2018, said its open roles now average at least $16 per hour, plus sign-on bonuses of up to $1,000.
