In October, The Gwen began rolling out a series of new events and amenities. On its rooftop, Upstairs at The Gwen, guests are offered hot cocktails and warm blankets to hold off the crisp fall air. For drinks, the property’s beverage manager crafted a tarot card-themed menu, where each cocktail accentuates the traits the cards possess. “Tipsy tea” is offered for couples and small groups to sit around to chat or “spill the tea.” These boozy beverages will be offered with light snacks such as candy apple-flavored macaroons and pumpkin choux, a type of pastry.

Matteson’s partners include Oklahoma’s Choctaw Nation, with plans for a casino on the former Lincoln Mall property, southeast of U.S. 30 and Cicero Avenue. The first phase would be a 123,000-square-foot casino, with a 200-room hotel and convention center to built later, representatives said.

Ethics board executive director Steve Berlin in a statement said the board “hopes that all who read about this matter realize that when they contact City officials to ask for support for or to persuade them about specific matters, they may well be engaging in lobbying, and, under City law, may need to register, and that they then register or contact our office with the specifics so we can advise them.”
“What we decided, after careful consideration, was we couldn’t really offer exemptions to anyone permanently because it would be putting our patients at risk,” Fulwiler said, noting that even if people are being tested weekly for COVID-19, they could still get infected and spread the illness between tests. Esperanza has five clinics on the city’s West and Southwest sides.
