The Sox came out of their funk in 1990, rebuilding with young talent like Jack McDowell, Robin Ventura and a couple of rookies who came up together that August — slugger Frank Thomas and pitcher Alex Fernandez. Some fans might have forgotten, but they owned Chicago in 1993 and drew fans from all over.
